Crystal Meth Smuggling: UAE Customs Seizes 16.2 Kg
“UAE Customs”, represented by the General Directorate of Ports Security at the Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs and Port Security, foiled an attempt to smuggle a quantity of “crystal” narcotics weighing 16.2 kilograms, which was seized professionally concealed inside the tyre of a vehicle arriving through one of the country’s land ports.
In a statement, the Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs and Port Security said that the incident began when customs inspectors at the directorate grew suspicious of the vehicle as it passed through the advanced radiation scanning systems, which showed abnormal indicators. This called for the intervention of manual inspection teams to carry out a thorough examination, which led to the discovery of the narcotics, in cooperation with the Customs and Security Support Department (K9), which specialises in drug detection.
In this regard, the Authority revealed that the total number of drug seizures carried out by its General Directorate of Ports Security since the beginning of this year to date has reached 765 seizures, weighing an estimated 390 kilograms, including 50,000 narcotic pills.
