Drug Control: Public Prosecution Participates in UN Session in Abu Dhabi

The UAE Public Prosecution took part in a panel discussion entitled “Strengthening the Response to Drugs: From Prevention and Treatment to Drug Supply Reduction and Enhancing Public Safety”, organised by the National Anti-Narcotics Authority on the sidelines of the Fifteenth United Nations Congress on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice in Abu Dhabi.

The Public Prosecution was represented at the session by Dr Saeed Al Ahbabi, Prosecutor at the Federal Drug Prosecution, who addressed the importance of building an integrated response to drug risks that combines prevention, awareness and treatment with supply-reduction and law-enforcement efforts, in a way that strengthens the protection of society and public safety.

The Public Prosecution stressed the importance of understanding the factors driving drug demand when developing policies and prevention programmes, and of drawing on the exchange of expertise and coordination among the relevant authorities to raise the effectiveness of institutional intervention.

The UAE Public Prosecution’s participation in the session affirms its role in supporting joint national efforts to combat drugs and in contributing its judicial expertise to discussions aimed at developing more effective and sustainable responses.
