Dubai Police Discuss Support for No Accident Day Initiative

The General Command of Dubai Police, represented by the General Department of Traffic, has organised a dialogue session on the "A Day Without Accidents" initiative, which is organised by the Ministry of Interior to coincide with the first day of the school year.

The session, held at the Dubai Police Officers Club, was attended by Brigadier Juma Salem bin Suwaidan, Director of the General Department of Traffic at Dubai Police, with the participation of representatives of the Roads and Transport Authority in Dubai, the Knowledge and Human Development Authority in Dubai, the GEMS Education group of schools, and a number of partners in the education sector.

Brigadier Juma bin Suwaidan affirmed that the session comes within the framework of unifying efforts and strengthening coordination among the concerned entities, and exchanging views and proposals that support the objectives of the initiative, alongside highlighting the role of educational institutions, parents and teaching staff in spreading traffic awareness messages and reinforcing safe behaviour among students and their families, particularly while travelling to and from schools.

He explained that the "A Day Without Accidents" initiative, organised by the Ministry of Interior to coincide with the first day of the school year, embodies the concept of partnership and community responsibility, and aims to entrench positive traffic behaviour and to achieve a day free of accidents, in order to protect lives and property and to support the targets of the National Traffic Safety Index.

He pointed out that participation in the initiative reflects the awareness of road users and their responsibility towards the safety of the community, stressing the importance of registering for it and adhering to its pledge and the safe traffic practices it includes, foremost among them complying with the specified speed limits, avoiding distraction from the road, leaving a sufficient safety distance, giving priority to pedestrians, and abiding by traffic instructions, particularly in the vicinity of schools.

The session addressed a number of themes related to the mechanisms for supporting the initiative and expanding the scope of its awareness messages.

At the conclusion of the session, Brigadier Juma bin Suwaidan honoured the partners from the Roads and Transport Authority in Dubai, the Knowledge and Human Development Authority in Dubai, and the GEMS Education group of schools.
