Fly Dubai: Attorney General Orders Investigation into Incident
His Excellency Counsellor Dr Hamad Saif Al Shamsi, Attorney General of the UAE, has ordered the formation of an investigation team of competent members of the Public Prosecution to investigate the incident that occurred yesterday on flydubai flight No. (FZ1073), travelling from Dubai International Airport to Tel Aviv, which led to the aircraft being diverted and landing safely at Tabuk Airport in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
This comes in light of flydubai’s announcement of an altercation inside the cockpit during the flight, which required the intervention of members of the company’s crew on board to secure the aircraft.
The investigation team has begun its work on the incident in coordination with the General Civil Aviation Authority and the relevant authorities in the country. The Attorney General directed that the necessary measures be taken to collect information and evidence and establish the truth of the incident, its circumstances, context and motives, and to verify whether it is linked to any terrorist activity or purpose, or whether there was any prior planning or direction behind it.
The Attorney General affirmed that the investigations are still ongoing, calling for speculation and the circulation of unreliable information about the incident to be avoided before the competent authorities complete gathering and verifying the facts, for the results of the investigations not to be pre-empted, and for reliance on information and statements issued by official sources.
It is worth noting that the judicial authorities of the UAE have jurisdiction to investigate the incident in accordance with the legislation in force, as the aircraft is registered in the country and flies its flag, which means that the provisions of UAE law apply to crimes committed on board, even if they occur outside the country’s territory.
