Atlas Lions Reach Quarterfinals of World Cup 2026 After Victory Over Canada
The Morocco national football team continued its impressive campaign at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico, after booking its place in the quarterfinals (round of eight) with a 3-0 victory over Canada in the round of 16 played on Saturday, 4 July 2026. Azzedine Ounahi scored a brace, while Soufiane Rahimi added the third goal, as the Atlas Lions confirmed they are continuing to deliver a performance worthy of their historic run in the 2022 edition.
Morocco had begun its tournament with a strong 1-1 draw against Brazil in the opening Group C match, then secured a 1-0 win over Scotland, before closing the group stage with a 4-2 victory over Haiti to advance to the next round in second place behind Brazil.
In the round of 16, which followed the round of 32, Morocco snatched qualification against the Netherlands after a 1-1 draw in regulation time, with the tie decided on penalties 3-2 in Morocco's favour — a match that showcased the strength of character and composure that have become hallmarks of this generation of players.

By reaching the quarterfinals, Morocco sets up a meeting with the winner of the France–Paraguay clash, in an eagerly awaited match to be played on 9 July 2026 in Boston, USA, amid broad Arab and African hopes that the Atlas Lions will continue writing new chapters in the history of Arab and African football.
