eDAS 2.0: Updated Digital System for Invoice Certification

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has called on users of the "eDAS" electronic system for attesting commercial invoices and certificates of origin to migrate to the second version, "eDAS 2.0," as of Monday, 8 June 2026, with the first version, "eDAS 1.0," being discontinued and the new version operating exclusively.

The discontinuation of the first version of the electronic system for attesting commercial invoices and certificates of origin, and the exclusive operation of "eDAS 2.0," comes within the Ministry of Foreign Affairs' keenness to improve the experience of its users and to develop its digital infrastructure supporting the achievement of smart digital transformation, and in line with the objectives of the Zero Bureaucracy programme through simplifying procedures, reducing time and effort, and decreasing the number of required fields and steps to obtain the service.

The service of attesting commercial invoices and certificates of origin through this system is an automated electronic service that enables the digital attestation of commercial documents issued in the United Arab Emirates or abroad, covering a wide range of commercial documents bearing a QR code — from contracts and agreements, the commercial register and the appointment of managers, to trademark registration, distribution agreements, board resolutions, trade licences and corporate tax certificates.

The attestation of these documents is an essential condition for their acceptance and legal effect in commercial dealings inside and outside the State, as attestation grants the document its authority before official bodies and commercial partners, and constitutes a necessary step in export and import transactions and in concluding cross-border contracts.

Lawyer Awadh Almheiri says that the attestation of commercial invoices and certificates of origin is not a formality, but a pillar of the validity of a commercial transaction and its international enforceability, and that adopting a unified digital system such as "eDAS 2.0" enhances the reliability of documents and shortens the time to complete them, in a manner that serves exporting and importing companies and reduces the risk of documents being rejected by foreign authorities.

Awadh Almheiri adds that the alignment of this update with the Zero Bureaucracy programme reflects an orientation toward a more efficient and swift business environment, explaining that reducing fields and steps not only lightens the procedural burden on users, but also limits the likelihood of error in entering data, and is reflected positively in the flow of trade and in the State's appeal as a hub for business.

AWADH ALMHEIRI LAW FIRM AND LEGAL CONSULTATIONS advises companies and users to take the initiative to migrate to the new version and to verify that their commercial documents are complete and bear a QR code before attestation, so as to avoid any delay in their transactions, and affirms its readiness to provide legal advice on the requirements for attesting commercial documents and having them recognized locally and internationally.
